I've used MS Word many times in my K-12 experience for notes, science reports and even poetry. I have also used google docs in the past. If I had to pick between the two of them, I would choose google docs simply based on personal convenience. I have a gmail account and I am slightly more familiar with the details of it in comparison to MS Word.

The ISTE standard 2.1 is the most important in my opinion. It's great if you can go about the steps of being a teacher, but actively learning is vital. For teachers, this is not only in regards to the material. The culture of the student body, patterns of classes and culture of teenagers is something that is necessary to a successful classroom.

As a senior, I consider myself one of the older digital natives, if I'm considering myself one. The privilege of having a childhood without social media is becoming increasingly apparent. With this however, has come positives and negatives. Sure, there is more than enough information in your pocket to seek out answers, yet there is also equal opportunity for distraction. This must be recognized by teachers of this world.

Badges are interesting. They are a quick way to tell if someone actually put forth the time and effort in some sort of activity. Of course, as with anything, not having the badge doesn't make you incapable so I do not put much value on them personally. I have a CPR certification badge in Elmhurst, Illinois and it was very useful information that also gave me confidence if the time came.
