BLOG POST 3: Copyright and Fair Use

     Copyright and fair use can be sticky subjects, especially as the world continues to develop technologically. Copyrights can be described as licensed ownership of a physical product. While many associate copyrights to property and last minute college essays, it actual branches into several fields. One large industry that constantly deals in copyrights is the music industry. They deal in copyrights with, not only music, but apparel as well. Fair use deals with the specifics of copyrights. Works that are registered under fair use are copyrights that allow for people to use that work without asking for permission first. For example, a teacher using outside resources for a middle class is considered fair use. It is educational and any problems later on will be handled in court. To avoid dealing with copyright, it is always recommended to double check your materials as a student and as a teacher. As always, creating your own original work is the best defense.

    As great as the internet is, there are still issues that should be recognized. One such issue that has been prevalent is cyberbullying. There are those who use the internet as mask to insult and bully others. To avoid or deal with the issue, the user may simple block the other user (if given the option) or report the other user as there are guidelines against cyberbullying across a large portion of the internet. Another issue                           is decreased productivity. However, as of the last few years, teachers now have access to monitor screens in the classroom. They're allowed to close tabs, windows and monitor even unopened tabs.

    Recently, we were assigned to creating our own newsletter for class. Some of the skills I already had previous to the assignment since I've been creating magazines, websites and others since middle school. The permission slip part, however, was something I hadn't thought of before. I had it tailored towards a music teacher but, in the future, I'm sure I will add more blocks with other subjects being included.

      This semester's class was in person (w/ flex for circumstances). I liked this about the class. As we are growing into adults, things come up and situations call for quick changes of plans. The only thing I would work on in my own classroom would be student  engagement, which is much easier said than done.      In searching for open educational resources (OER), I stumbled upon this website . It is a collection of OER links for music educators. It includes textbooks, other libraries, scores/sheet music and even course videos. For beginner music educators, this would be a very key resource to have.     We did a project that required us to use PowerPoint to create a slide show and inform our audience on a topic. Blog Post 6

    Wow, we've already done six of these. Diigo was the recent addition to our tech class which I like and I don't like. The pros of it of course would be the swift collaboration. It is very user friendly for sharing information between people. I don't like some of features, such as the need to download an extension, however, other than that it is very nice.     This is the sixth blog post and honestly I don't mind it. Usually, I just talk to myself, so it's nice to have a venting space regarding my school work. The constant reflection helps to keep me present and it is a nice way to see how things have been progressing on a weekly basis. I don't see myself doing it outside of this class, however.     Finally, we have been talking more about Web 2.0 (the current web) and the implementation of tools from it. Blog Post 7

    Teacher websites are a great way for students and parents to get a feel for who will be their teachers. Most pages will have sections that tell you about the teacher as person and there  may even be photos. They will list their subject, daily tasks, calendar or even educational resources they may use. It isn't required at all schools but it is a good idea for every teacher to have a page.      I plan to be a music teacher (if I am teaching) so there won't be very much teacher tech. There is only so much you can get from between screen when it comes to music and growing students. I do, however, see myself utilizing a Kahoot or two to make sure students are retaining. This keeps the class light and playful during situations that call for it.     Wiki platforms are interesting.
